Multichannel Audio Player Overview
A few years ago, Rick Polizzi was kind enough to share with the members of Halloween-L a movie of his
2000 Halloween home haunt.
A prominent feature of his haunt was a musical performance with singing pumpkins and skeletons,
where groups of singing creatures sang different parts of the song.
In order to achieve this effect, Rick used a fancy and expensive multichannel recorder.
It enabled him to make and replay synchronized recordings for each part,
akin to a choral arrangement for Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass.
Here are some alternatives for generating multichannel audio...
True Multichannel Recorder

Computer With Multichannel Sound Card

DVD Player With 5.1 Sound Output

Stereo With Control Track
We set out to simulate this multichannel playback on a strict budget with our
multichannel audio player 1 project.
That project used a stereo recording to play a single sound track,
routing it to different performing characters by using tones to turn performers on and off.
Multiple Synchronized MP-3 Players
We noticed that the price of MP-3 players had dropped to a pittance.
This inspired us to abandon the concept of faking a multichannel recorder.
Instead, we thought to use several cheap MP-3 players,
swynchronized together, to give true multichannel recording.
That project is
multichannel audio player 2.
