Is haunting just for guys?

or

Sex and the single ghoul.

Some of you might wonder whether haunting is a "guy thing". Perhaps it is something that women don't care about, can't do, or can't do well.

This is certainly not the case.

I don't have any hard statistics, but there are quite a few women on the e-mailing lists. They post frequently, with good ideas and ambitious projects that they carry off as well as any guy.

This page contains a few sample postings from the Halloween-L mailing list archives, collected over a period of just a few days, illustrating the creativity, dedication, and presence of the lady haunters.

The message is just this: There is no gender barrier when it comes to having the desire or ability to haunt!

Subject: Child Coffin
From: "Sue McDonald"
Date: Fri, 06 Jul 2001 06:35:01 -0700

I was cleaning up yesterday after working on my spider woman prop and
decided that I had enough plywood to maybe make a coffin for one of my
Mr. Thrifties. I was hoping to find a way to make the convex top that
most coffins have but without some thin sheet luan, I was just out of
luck. BUT I decided that I would make a stone coffin instead. I cut
the top, bottom and ends for the coffin and then ran out of
plywood...:-(. Taking the top of the coffin, I measured half inch from
the side edges and three inches in from head and toe. I drew a line
along these measurements. I took three 15" sections of 1" flexible pipe
that I used on the spider woman, cut the ends on a long angle and used
short screws to attach one at each of the 3" in line and the ends of the
pipe at the edge of the plywood. For additional rigidity, I inserted a
steel rod (24 guage) down the center of each flex pipe. I bent the ends
of the rod to help support the slope at each end of the coffin top. I
stretched chicken wire across the top and stapled the wire down. It
takes a little forming but it was worth it. I will be placing a section
of batting around the chicken wire and fixall the entire top. I will be
installing the hinges before I put the silk lining inside. I will
fixall the entire outside of the coffin and line the inside.

i have 2 questions please: has anyone seen those fog heads at
terrorsyndicate? they look so very cool. i have to have one, but i want to
run my fogger to the graveyard, but i will also have to run it thru the fog
head. how do i do that? and also, please bear in mind i am severely
mechanically challenged, i am making a static prop (teacher for the haunted
classroom) with a skull head and led eyes, but i would like her head to turn
around. i was thinking of attaching fishing line to her neck and running it
up thru hooks in the ceiling to the front door, from which she will be
standing next to. does anyone have a better idea? thanks,k

Subject: Mid-summer night slumber party scare!  {g}
From: JeanniSkip
Date: Fri, 06 Jul 2001 19:01:40 EDT

Hello ghouls!

I am having some kids overnight tonight for a boy's spur of the moment
slumber party and am trying to come up with some easy scares or practical
jokes of the haunting kind. {wicked wicked mom!} The boys are 12-13, and
originally they wanted to 'borrow' my props to make a blair witch style
video in our yard, as we are on a half acre and they are planning on
camping in our front yard. Lots of real critters come down from the hills
at night, and we often hear packs of coyotes howling nearby, so that will
add to their jangled nerves. The boys are hoping the moon will still be
full, so they like the idea of it being 'spooky'. My feeling is they WANT
to be scared, but I'm afraid if I go too far they will all be too scared
to stay out there! {cackle}

Any ideas anyone?

might help protect the foam so as not to get it all scratched up. . . . .

be very cost-effective, but they could all be cut down into standard

From: "Justus"

Google.com has recently introduced http://images.google.com/ which allows
you to search for images. I just did a search for "Halloween" and saw some
great things in just a few minutes. If you click on the image, it will take
you to the web page from which it came and that leads to more possibilities.
There is also a search engine, http://www.searchshots.com/ and it gives you
some amazing sites. Instead of a simple written URL or line to click on, it
gives you the image of the first page of the web site. I've done some other
searches in the past using the normal (and abnormal) search engines, but
this one took me to things I saw nowhere else. Most interesting. Have fun.

Christine,

What dates in Oct. will you be traveling in South Dakota. I am from Sioux
Falls, SD (east side of the state). Depending on when you are traveling
would determine if our house is building built or open for victums. ;-)
Either way you'd be welcome to stop by.

Besides haunting, what kinds of sites are you looking for? Tourist places,
scenic places, museums?

course the haunted mansion (thanks friendly Spirit). I would also like to
know of any cool stores that sell a large variety of Halloween stuff,
