Hatred and Intolerance
I could spend a lot of time, space, and bandwidth listing targets of persecution,
both ancient and modern.
It seems that the only constant through history and across cultures is that everybody needs somebody to hate.
But I'm going to keep this focused on two targets:
I would have liked to believe that we left book-burning and witch-burning behind us in the 20th century,
if not the 17th.
But do not be deceived and do not be complacent: the burning times are not over!
- Mark Cline was a man with a dream; all he wanted to do was to bring a little fun to our lives.
And he did a good job of it, with a small amusement park, and a studio that manufactured props for the entertainment industry.
Then somebody decided that Mark was doing the Devil's work, and must be destroyed.
- A lot of folks consider the Harry Potter books to be good clean fun.
Others praise the books for finding an entertaining way to teach about defending good and fighting evil.
But some folks figure that these books are a threat to civilization as we know it. So, they did the calm, logical, 21st century thing: they held a book burning bonfire.
- And then there are those who would burn down a beloved dark attraction, just for fun.
