Witch Centerpiece

We usually prefer not to use witches in our Halloween haunt. When we do use them, they are not nasty old hags, but happy, cheerful, friendly witches.

We found a very nice witch decoration at Michael's. Dennis grabbed her with a 40%-off coupon. We didn't really have anything in mind at the time. We just liked her.

Diana soon put the witch to work as a centerpiece...

Figure, Cauldron, Liner

This happy little witch is made from plastic resin. She is firmly attached to a resin cauldron.

We decided that she should be brewing a potion, complete with steam from the cauldron and a bat hovering above it.

We were a little worried that the cauldron might not be entirely watertight, or that the ultrasonic mister might damage the plastic.

So we added a disposable liner.

The liner for the cauldron was made by cutting the bottom off of a 2 litre soda bottle.

Mister

This is the operating end of the
ultrasonic mister. Mist is projected up from the large circular depression near the middle of the picture. The small cylinder above that is the water level sensor; the unit shuts itself off if the water level goes low.

Place this in the bottom of the lined cauldron, fill the cauldron with distilled water, and attach the power supply that comes with the mister.

The bat serves two purposes: it adds atmosphere, as a spooky bat hovering above the steaming cauldron. It also has a cup on the bottom, facing down, to catch water spattered up by the mister.

The bat-and-cup assembly is mounted on wire legs that can be bent to fine-tune that position.

In moments, the cauldron will fill with steam.

Bend the wire legs of the bat-and-cup assembly so that the cup and wires are hidden in the mist and the bat "floats" above.
