Tiny Halloween Town

Diana decided to build a miniature spooky town, using buildings from Michael's.

Planning

Diana started with a base of plywood, covered with a piece of styrofoam. Then she put all the buildings on the scene and considered where they should go.

Pieces are laid out in their desired positions, and moved around until right.

This layout looks pretty good!

Diana wanted a gathering around a bonfire.

The bonfire is in the woods, near a grove of bare trees.

Construction

After the buildings are positioned, and extra styrofoam added to give hills, a layer of monster mud is added.

This is cheap cloth, dipped in a mixture of drywall joint compound and latex paint

Really messy. Really fun.

Results

The foam and mud landscape was covered with cheap brown felt for the first year, to give a look of "dirt".

Note the fountain in the lower right. This was part of the Christmas Town product line. But put some red food coloring in the water...

Note the graveyard in the lower left.

Here's the completed product on Halloween. All the electrical wiring is hidden under the felt.

We also had it set up for the earlier Halloween party, with a black paper backdrop and bright yellow moon.
