This file is one of the Wolfstone archives of the Halloween mailing lists. You can find out more, and reach the entire collection here: http://www.pobox.com/~wolfstone/_r/HalloweenArchive.html This particular archive deals with "real fire and flames" topics. This includes: o REAL fire o special effects with fire, flame, and pyrotechnic smoke It does NOT include related topics: o flicker bulbs o electronic flicker generators o silk flames o lighting in general Editorial note - I don't think it's a good idea to use real fire in a haunt. - - - - - Date: Fri, 04 Jun 1999 00:30:15 -0400 From: Jeff & Susan Stringer Subject: Re: HALL: Ex-Mortis It's a length of 1 inch diameter pvc pipe that is capped on one end with the other end open. Drill a hole into the end cap and insert a glow-plug from a radio controlled car or plane into the hole. Pack a couple of sheets of magician's flash paper down into the open end. Attach wires from a dual, double-A battery rig with a contact switch built in. Hit the switch and the glow plug ignites the flash paper. I used a six inch length of pipe and got a bushel basket sized fireball that shot out about ten feet. The tighter you pack the paper, the farther the fireball will fly. Hit any shop that sells RC supplies and ask for "glow plugs". It is actually a miniature spark plug for liquid fuel burning RC vehicles. It is a hex-shaped nut with threads on one end to screw into the engine. The other end is a stem for attaching the cranking battery. Novelty and magic supply shops will sell the paper. But be cautious, kiddies. Yer playin' wit' fire, y'know...! ;) I used this effect also for the shoulder cannon on my Predator costume some years ago. It is a definate crowd pleaser. Gristle P. Turn on the motor and shine a low (A16 40watt) wattage bulb (with 'fire' roscolux#19 or Lee#019 gel) from under it up. supplement this with a par16 (rs#19 or Lee#164/179 gel) shining into a haze bank. this would get you smoldering logs with reddish haxe rising up. I dont think this is what you're looking for, so here are some of my other reccomendations... Use lighter fluid. It looks hot, but it really isn't - I've successfully held my hand directly in a lighter fluid flame for 5 minutes. you would need to 1. dig a moat around the 'witch' about 3 feet in deptph 2. partially fill it with water (6 inches, leaving 2.5 for buurning) 3. run your pipes underground and into the water 4. attach one way valves to pipes to make sure 'your tank no go kaboom' 5. run the pipes together to a hose and attach a pump to it. 6. run the pump to a fluid resevoir ASCII art time: /=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D[pump]------{tank o' = fluid} ____ _____ Ground Level / | | / | | / | | / |^^^^^^^^^^^| Water level / | | / | =3D|=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D/ Pipe = output level ------------- the idead is that the fluid will be let out in bursts to float to the surface, disallowing a fireball to travel up the pipe to the tank and go 'boom'. You would have to light the fluid initially, but this is a simple as givinga few bursts and tossing in a match. you could make a multivibrator circuit to set the pump enable/disable time for your burst times. this is risky. you didnt hear me tell you this. dont sue me if your witch turns out not to be one :) Dustin trygger wrote: > > Is there a way to simulate fire.
