Applying Finishes

Paint (and similar compounds) serve to seal surfaces, protecting them from the elements; as well as making them look the way you want.

But first you have to get them on there.

Specific methods of application:

General

No matter what method is used to apply the paint, surface preparation is critical.

Make sure the paint is well mixed before use: paint settles.

Brush

[photo] "Chip brushes" are inexpensive. They are intended to be disposable, but a thrifty painter can clean and reuse them.

Air Brush

[photo] This is a nice airbrush, the Aztec A470. This particular set comes with most of the available attachments, a fitted wooden box, and an instructional video. It's expensive.

[photo] This is a cheapie airbrush made by Central Pneumatic, a house brand of Harbor Freight Tools.

It normally sells for $9.99, but is frequently on sale for around half that.

The airbrush is single-action. The kit originally came with glass bottles, but now includes plastic ones.

We used one of these to paint our gargoyles. David proclaimed it "The best $5 air brush I have ever used!" I'm not sure that's saying much.
